TipCalc FAQ | Frequently Asked Questions
Tipli: TipCalc is a receipt scanner, tip calculator, and check splitter designed to make restaurant receipts easier to understand.
Scan a restaurant receipt with your iPhone and TipCalc can identify the subtotal, tax, service fees, included gratuity, discounts, line items, and total. You can then review the receipt, calculate your tip, and split the check.
Open TipCalc and point your iPhone camera at the restaurant receipt.
Keep the receipt visible and reasonably flat while TipCalc reads it. Once the receipt has been recognized, review the detected amounts before calculating your tip.
TipCalc’s core features are free to use, with no account or subscription required. This includes receipt scanning, tip calculation, basic fee and service charge detection, check splitting, receipt saving, and currency conversion.
Advanced features and more detailed receipt processing powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) use consumable Insights Credits. When AI Insights are enabled, one Insights Credit is used per receipt scan. Additional Insights Credits can be purchased at any time as one-time purchases.
For full details, please see Tipli: TipCalc’s Terms of Service.

Can I save my receipts?
Yes. You can save scanned receipts to a private, searchable receipt library within TipCalc. Saved receipts are stored on your device and can be accessed from the Saved Receipts section of the app.
Saving a receipt in TipCalc adds it to your “Saved Receipts” library. Saved receipts are not automatically added to your device’s camera roll or photo library.
To save a copy to your camera roll, open “Saved Receipts”, select the receipt, and tap the “Save to Photos” button. You may be asked to grant TipCalc permission to save photos to your device.
To check your credit balance, from inside the app click Settings -> Add Insight Credits. Your Insight Credits balance for that device is displayed below the purchase options.
If your Insights Credits still do not appear, contact us at support@tipli.ai and include a brief description of the issue. For fastest support, we’ll need your device Installation ID which can be obtained by clicking “Contact Support” on the “Add Insights Credit” screen or by going to “My Data Rights” inside the app.
Please do not send any payment card numbers or other sensitive financial information by email. The App Store where you obtained the Tipli: TipCalc handles all transaction information, payments, and refunds.
Auto Capture takes lower resolution images on certain devices, try manual capture mode for the best results.
Try placing the receipt on a flat surface with good lighting. TipCalc works best with the flashlight turned on. Make sure the entire receipt is visible and avoid shadows, glare, folds, or anything covering the printed information.
If the receipt is damaged, faded, unusually formatted, or difficult to read, TipCalc may not be able to recognize every part correctly.
Reporting Issues inside the app is the best way for us to diagnose issues with the capture / scanning processing. Use the “Report Issue” button to upload a photo of the receipt along with some diagnostics information to help us determine why TipCalc had problems. Reported issues and feedback are not associated with your Installation ID and an automated masking process attempts to strip receipt photos of personal identifiable information prior to human review. Reported issues and feedback are retained in accordance with the app’s Privacy Policy.
When contacting support via Email, please describe what happened, what you expected to happen, and the iPhone model and iOS version you are using when relevant. For your privacy, do not email us sensitive information such as payment info.
